Blacktail Deer Alaska

Southeast Alaska and Prince of Whales Island are wet rainforest like mountainous refuges filled with thick cover and lots of water. This area is home to a large population of Sitka Blacktail deer and the hunting is unmatched. With multiple tags available and plenty of bucks to chase, this hunt is pure fun. Our experienced outfitter has worked in southeast Alaska since the mid 80's and started guiding clients in the early 90's. His experience and knowledge of the hunting areas continually pays off with clients harvesting record class bucks each fall.

Starting in the August season you are able to backpack into the remote higher alpine areas and chase these bucks in their redish coats and velvet antlers. The September and early October hunting is also done from remote spike camps, but the bucks are out of velvet sporting mahogany colored antlers and hitting the natural mineral areas. This is a great time to combo in a Black Bear hunt. Late October and through early December the Blacktail bucks are rutting. Depending on the amount of snow you will be hunting from the upper elevations down to the beach. Rattling and calling are really effective during this time of year. During all seasons this area produces many Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett scoring bucks. This hunt is a great way to experience southeast Alaska and take one or more of these unique beautiful Sitka Blacktail bucks home.
